corkboard makeover tutorial
Mar. 12th, 2012 11:43 amIn my home, I have a small corner in our living room for my workspace. In that space I like to keep a bulletin board for random tchotkes, photos, and inspiration images. I sew and knit and make lots of stuff and always have things that inspire me around. Do you? Let me hear about it!
My corkboard was looking real messy though and I thought it time to give it a little makeover.
See how cluttered?

First step, find a cool looking frame for your new board. I picked this up at Goodwill. The only piece I used from it was the frame. The glass and cardboard went to the recycling bin.

Clean off your old board if you have one. We're using that as the corky part of our new board. If you don't have an old bulletin board, you can usually find them very cheap at Goodwill. Get one the same size or bigger than the frame you will use.

Next up, cut the board to fit the frame! My frame was substantially smaller than my original corkboard, so I traced it out and sawed away! (Full disclosure, I don't actually have a saw. I used a very sharp bread knife. It worked!)

Grab (or buy) some cute and pretty fabric to cover the cork. You'll more than likely use less than a yard. It all depends on how big your board is. I used a little over half a yard. Place the corkboard on the wrong side of your fabric. Cut, leaving a few inches around.

Staple that bad boy around the edges of your board. Pull it tightly around, so you don't have any creases or sagging areas on the front. Trim excess fabric if needed.

Place fabric covered corkboard in your frame then hang it up. Stand back to admire your work!

And then grab some cute new thumbtacks...

And start filling it up with more inspiration!

I hope this mini tutorial was enjoyable!
Thanks for looking.
Cheers!
