Question!

The other day I 'crafted' a batch of soap for my aunt. Very simply, melted it, added scent and color, poured it. The problem is, I wanted it to be a nice red color, as the scent was apple. I was using glycerin soap with moisturizer, which is a white color w/o dye. I wanted to use white because I didn't want it clear. Anyway.. I was only making like 8 oz., and no matter HOW much red dye I used, it wouldn't turn red.. Just stayed a deep pink. I seriously used a whole bottle of dye, just because I was so frustrated. I know it was a TON TON TON more than the recommended amount. So, I'm wondering why this happened? Is it just that you can't make a nice red color with dye? Was it too cheap, bad, what? Was it the fact that the glycerin was white?
It's driving me crazy because it's a gift item and I really am not happy with the pink...
Thanks!
