another quick idea -= this one may be to late since fathers day is just around the corner, but keep it in mind...

making a memory quilt is really pretty easy. if you are handly with a sewing machine and an iron, you can do it. just find alot of pictures you like (say pics of you and your dad, or pics of his life) and buy some nice transfer paper. you can either scan the pics in and print them yourself, or you can usually find somewhere local that can help you with this part. then you just buy white fabric, iron on the pictures, and sew. you can be intricate:

usually these quilts are more of just decoration, since the transfers tend to peel and flake with washing, but making a nice wall hanging of your fathers life may be something you can really be proud to give him.

a friend of mine did this for her mother for her 60th b-day and it was a great hit. also, another friend of mine works at a elemntry school, and made one of the kids in her classes drawings. really a fun and easy project, but one that shows you put alot of thought into it.
