oh, I wish I were a little bar of soap

A few days ago I asked about re-melting melt-and-pour soap. (Thanks to everyone for the responses, btw!)

I had a couple dozen wee bars of soap that had been given to me as gifts. The ones I used in my shower were always slipping through the slats in my soap holder deal. I was tired of picking up soap slivers, and besides, I like a big bar of soap. So I wanted to melt these lads down and make one big bar.

Here's what I ended up with:

I ended up using 13 little soaps, I think. Some of the ones I had were the opaque kind, and I discovered they didn't want to re-melt. So I just used transluscent ones to make this.

I used the bottom of an empty rice milk container for the mold.

First I chunked up the purple ones and melted/poured them, then the pinky-red ones, then yellow, then green, each time letting the layer set a bit before pouring the next, so it would be stripey.

The resulting bar is a little rough looking and a bit bubbly, but I think it's nifty! It's surprising to me that it's only this size (about the size of a large commercial bar) considering there are 13 small bars in it.

Now my appetite is whetted to make my own. I love the stripey effect. When I make my own from scratch, I will use a lot less color gunk so they are not as dark, though.
