Y'all are awesome
Jul. 11th, 2003 10:38 pmI don't often post here, but I read a lot. Today I had a dillemma, and all of the reading I've done here came in handy.
I have just started a small business with my brother, selling rainbow stained glass suncatchers at Pride festivals. So far, it's going pretty well. Tomorrow is our second Pride festival.
One of the problems that I had at my last festival was that my business cards kept blowing around. They are printed on vellum and not very heavy, but I didn't want to cover them up with anything and keep people from taking one.
So, as I'm sitting at my desk, I look up on the shelf over my computer and I notice this AOL can. And I stare at it for a minute. Then I turn around and look at the tv for a while and suddenly notice this vase that I have next to the television with those glass half-marbles in it. And my brain starts ticking.
So, I grabbed the AOL can and sprayed the inside of it and the sides of it with forest green spraypaint (because that happened to be what color I had) and I grabbed the half marbles, thinking I would make marble-magnets out of them. That way, I could set the business cards in the halves of the tin, set the marbles on top of the business cards and keep them from blowing away. Lucky for me, most of the half marbles I have are also dark green!
Well, it turned out I didn't have any magnets on hand that were strong enough, but then realized that all I really need to do is set the marbles inside the tin and they will hold down the business cards. The edges of the tin will keep them from rolling around or falling off the table.
After the festival tomorrow, I'll let y'all know how it worked. I really just wanted to say THANKS for all the great ideas! :)
