how would one go about making paper stiffer? i want to make origami boxes for xmas gifts out of book pages [to put on dressers or desks and such] but i want them to hold up to wear and tear. also aside from plain old painted wood beads...what do you suggest i use as a handle?

p.s. i am working quickly on the inspiration links. i can't find a decent enough bookmark keeper so i'll just set it up on my site and hope my host doesn't leave soon lol. if anybody has a better solution i'm all ears.
