Project for Fabric Donation
Jun. 25th, 2002 12:38 pmAn effort I just learned about is called "Project Liberty". It is a FEMA sponsored New York State initiative designed to help people in the New York Metro Area who were affected by the tragedy on 9/11.
To commemorate the one year anniversary of 9/11 & help children in the Long
Island area express their feelings concerning these events, Project Liberty
is organizing an opportunity for children to make quilt squares at their
local libraries which will be combined and quilted together by adult
volunteers. Once constructed, the quilts will tour as a part of memorial
observences and eventually be returned to the childrens own communities.
In order to begin this effort by the week of July 4th and continue through
the summer, Project Liberty needs to receive a substantial amount of fabric
scrap donations relatively quickly. If you can mail even a few pieces of any
fabric this week, you would be helping a lot! Fabric of any size,
color/pattern will do, as long as it is big enough for a child to cut
something out of. As the squares are to be quilted, cotton, cotton blends,
polar fleece--anything not too delicate would be appropriate.
