Bookshelf "doors" help needed
Aug. 15th, 2003 07:50 amI need some ideas.
I have this book shelf from when I was a kid that's probably about 3-4 feet tall, wooden, and just wide enough to fit vhs and dvds, since that's what I use it for. I really, really am tired of seeing my videos and wanted to cover the front. I do not want to use fabric. My first idea was to use quarter inch plywood, paint and hinge it to the front to make doors. I was going to drill two vertical holes handle height and knot two loops, one on each door, of twine or thin rope, then slide a pair of decorative chopsticks through the twine as a way to secure the doors. Maybe stencil a dragon on the front of each door or something.
Well after talking to my dad, he informed me it wouldn't work because that thinness of plywood warps with humidity and time. So that won't work. And the next thickness will be too thick and too heavy for that bookshelf.
So what I was wondering is if anyone has any ideas for material or an item I can use in the same manner for doors that is neither thin plywood or heavy wood.
Any help would be appreciated!
