eyelets?

I've been eyeing these eyelets (har har har) for a couple weeks now. Today I finally bought them.




They were in the scrapbooking aisle, but I think I could use them for way better stuff than that.

I was thinking if I could get a piece of black leather somewhere, maybe I could make a wrist cuff out of it and add a row of white hearts on each side.

Or I thought about some wide black and white polka-dotted ribbon accented with the red hearts.

Here's the problem - Since I've only seen them with scrapbooking things, I don't know how to go about cutting holes in fabric for them and what types of fabric would be best. Any ideas? Or can these ONLY be used to scrapbooking? Help, por favor!
