Shoe help please

I have a pair of black Vans with a white stripe on either side of them. I didn't really like them, so I painted the white stripes with acrylic paints and modge-podged the hell out of them to seal the paint. Well, now the painted design is chipping. I don't really like the painted design anymore either (multi stripes on the insides, flowers on the outsides). Is there anyway to remove the modge-podge sealed paint?

I thought about sanding them, but that might destroy the shoes...
