HELP! I live in a disaster from the 70's!

My boyfriend and I just moved in to the cutest little house! The only problem, is that the curtains, couch, and carpet are WAAAAY ugly and down right scary. I don't have a sewing machine...does anybody know how to make curtains without sewing? Annnd does anybody know how to recover a sofa? Just with a little hand sewing, or something like that? Annnd our walls are UBER bare...so ideas for walls would be nice too. Thank you sooo much for your help!
