knitting

i'd like to learn to knit [again, mehe...i used to be able to about 10 years ago].

just need to know what needles are best to start off with. i can get them second hand from a charity shop, but if they're the wrong type of needles for a beginner, then there's no point in getting them! also, wool, i'll probably just start off by making a scarf. what type of wool do i need, or doesn't it matter?

please bear in mind that i live in the UK, so please don't mention walmart or anything, as it means nothing to me!
