Dec. 10th, 2001 11:32 pmOH how wonderful. After years, YEARS of thinking about it, I've finally made an all-purpose sort of bag that I can wear around town. I've been tormented for years, not feeling right about wearing a backpack everywhere and never able to bring myself to buy a messenger bag, which is what I wanted all along, secretly. It was a quest for a good non-backpack which had a dignified and enduring style. Homemade was ok, but bag-making has always daunted me-- they always come out too shallow or too loose or too garish. However, today I found some nice inexpensive wool at a salvaged-fabric shack I discovered in my town and just dove in. The bag is charcoal, which is my favorite color for wool-ish things, and it has a gold stripe on the flap, which I think was just the right touch of color. I've put a dark red corduroy half-lining inside, and I think it will be visible slightly...it's really great. The strap, while non-adjustable, is made of the same fabric but is double-layered and top-stitched with yellow/gold thread...yay for topstitching.
