okay i believe this question can go here...

lets say i am in my first apartment. and lets say this apartment has a pair of french doors. they may look something like this:

and lets say i want to put tissue paper bits to "stain glass" the glass on the doors. and lets say (yeah im sorry its getting old) i use modge podge to put the tissue paper to the window.

QUESTIONS:
1) will the modgedpodged tissue paper come off when i move out and want to collect hefty security deposit
2) is this a major design blah that indicates im a lowly college student, and if so do you have any better ideas???

thank you in advance!!!

A while ago, in Ready Made magazine (I think it was issue #5), I saw instructions for a light made out of ceedee jewel cases. They were all stacked up and the light fixture part was inside. I was wondering if anyone knew how to go about this. I cannot find the issue anywhere, and I really would like to make it.
Thanks :)

I haven't posted in here for ages! Where my mom and dad work, they always have left over magnets, that are great and thick. They aren't perfect square shapes, but they are approx 1"x1". At the moment I have 60 of them to get rid of. I am looking to sell these, so if you are interested in some, then please email me at catherineanne1982@yahoo.com so we can negotiate pricing.

This site has a really cool free chart to download. Not the little ones either. It's a Noah's Ark chart about 2 square feet I believe. Anyways, there are links for charts to buy and there is a link to 40 free charts.

good grief.

i apologize to everyone the ignorance and obscenity that censorship post included.

if you missed it, you're lucky.
if you saw it, you know what i'm talking about.

it has been deleted.
and the IP address for the poster has been logged so i will be investigating this today and getting the LJ admin people involved.

i hate that it has to come to this but let's try to move on and forget about it. that poster obviously just wants attention that i will not allow him/her to have the satisfaction to get.

again, i apologize and that post by no means reflects what i want to accomplish here at [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl. thank you all for understanding.

EDIT: 3 pieces of news..
#1 - anonymous posting has now been banned from [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl - i apologize but that's just the way it has to be now.
#2 - a complaint has been filed with the abuse team of the anonymous poster's IP provider. conveniently they had an abuse report center so hopefully i will be able to get to the bottom of this.
#3 - a complaint has ALSO been filed with the livejournal abuse team.

ANOTHER EDIT: 2 more comments from me..
#1 - i deeply, truly, and honestly apologize for havig to ban anonymous comments now. i know it is unfair to punish everyone for one person's actions. i didn't want it to come to this but truthfully, this isn't the first time this has happened. perhaps after the air is cleared and this hype dies down i will be able to turn anonymous posting back on. but until then, i need it to remain off. additional trolling and flame wars are unacceptable.

#2 - if there are any more images i have not deleted, please let me know ASAP.

last and final update on this insanity:

thanks to the suggestion of [livejournal.com profile] quasidan i have turned anonymous posting back on but every anonymous post will be screened before it can be viewed.

i'll be honest, i don't exactly know how screening works but it is better than punishing everyone for the arsehole who caused this stir. anyone wanna give me a 101?

again, i apologize and am trying my best to handle this. thanks for all of your support, i really appreciate it. this person has been reported to LJ and their ISP so please don't fret.

thanks everyone.

I finished this purse last night. The image is from a dishtowel that I got on sale at Marshall's (yay!). I have plans to make at least 9 more, but I've gotten such a good response so far, that I might have to hunt down some more towels. We'll see. I'm doing each one a little different with different colored fabric and sequins in different places (this one has them on her bandanna in case you can't see in the picture). Plus, I'm keeping one for myself, of course.

(the pictures are a little big... I wanted to make sure the details were shown. sorry!)

An idea.

I checked the FAQ, but might have missed something.

I want a map I can stick pins in... a corkboard map. And I want it to be durable, rather than just... paper pinned to a board. Also, it has to be big.

Could I laminate the map to a sheet of cork and frame it? I don't think that would be thick enough, but perhaps if I added a few layers of cork beneath it..?

That would be a huge frame. An expensive frame. This project has to be cheap, as I am a soon-to-be-poor-college-craftgrrl.

Should I just give up on the durable idea and pin a map to a board? And where would I get cork large enough?

Ideas?

I have a horrifyingly ugly desk in my possession. I have had it since I was about seven, and when I was nine my parents redecorated my room white and pink, so all of my furniture was painted white to match my new decor.

I painted gold stars, a sun and a moon on the desk when I was fifteen, but I didn't finish the desk properly when doing it, so it just looks dirty and tacky.

This year I was disgusted with the look of my desk and assumed I couldn't make it look any worse than it already does, so I took a black sharpie marker and wrote song lyrics from the Mad Caddies and the Heatskores all over the top of the desk.

Over all, the desk, after all my "alterations", looks like pure and utter crap. I plan on redecorating it this summer before I head off to university, but I'm not entirely sure how I want to do it. I know I'll have to strip the paint off of the desk, but I'm not sure how I'm going to do that.

Basically, I would love to know the following:
- how does one go about stripping white paint off of a desk without ruining it?
- I want a dark brown stain on the desk when I'm finished stripping the paint off of it. How will I go about staining it? Will I have to sand it down or something? I'm completely oblivious.
- I also want to add some pictures from National Geographic magazines to the desk. I'm familiar with decoupaging, but I am not sure what is the most durable sealant to put on the pictures. I have used Mod Podge on other crafts, and I haven't been impressed. I need something that's not sticky. What's a non-sticky, durable sealant?
- I want to change the little knobs on my dresser, too. How would one go about making them?

Thanks in advance for all of your help, guys. When I'm finished, I'll be sure to post pictures.

hello lovies.

this question is so terribly close to the previous one that i won't be suprised if i get kicked outta town.

i have a canvas bag. i want to sew vinyl sleeves onto it, and then slip record covers into the sleeves. can i sew vinyl onto fabric? with what? i'm not a sewer at all, but i do what i can and i really want a sprucey new bag for next year.

thank you all :)
