Hello, I've been lurking for the past month or so, but I've been inspired by everyone else to start crafting again once exams are over! I don't have anything to show as of yet, but I do have some questions regarding jewelry and wire. I looked in the FAQ but I didn't really see anything which dealt with them...

I babble, so I'll hide the rest.. )

I so hope this is the right place to post this. I got a shirt as a present, and this is a really guyish shirt. I am looking for ideas (sewing, cutting, whatever) on making this a prettier, girlier shirt. I am definitely going to cut the neck line, it chokes me.

Please help?

hi!

one of you ladies gave me instructions on how to make a t-shirt into a halter, and being the idiot that I am, I accidentally deleted it from my inbox. I don't remember what entry it was on, or what user. So, if you were the person, or can give me instructions on how to do this, I would appreciate it. thanks so much!

i couldn't find a post specifically about this in the memories, so... does anyone have experience with a singer 5040? is it good or does it suck? i've heard bad things about the quality nowadays but i'm interested because it has an overlock stitch (i need a serger, and they have an optional foot for trimming the fabric) and it's cheaaap. also, i've got a singer/brother shop down the street from me so it's easy to get it serviced and find stuff i need.

i'm a fashion student & i'm taking a lot of garment construction classes so i need something to be able to handle a variety of fabrics. i have a brother VX950 that's about 17 years old and has never been serviced. it just keeps messing things up so i never get anything done. it was my mom's and she never really took care of it. :/

edit: i took my sewing machine into the shop to see if it could be saved, & there happens to be something inside it that's cracked (i forgot what it was) so there isn't a way i could fix it. the guy said it wasn't that great of a machine outside of the box and that it was a more cheaply made model that places like service merchandise, etc carried. uhh the trade-in value for my sewing machine was $28. he showed me a brother NX-200 and it was really nice. he showed me how it could go thru like 91723 layers of denim & leather. it was on sale for $400, so i'm still wondering about the other models (singer 5040, brother CS8072 and PC2800).

if anyone has alternate suggestions also, that would be great... i've been trying to research machines for a while now and i'm just getting more & more confused! thanks!

Anyone know of a website that details how to turn a skirt (and the one I have it kinda full) into pants?
Yes, basically, cut up the middle and sew seams, but would like to see if I'm missing anything, or if there's a better way to do it.

For those of you interested. I've started my own website which is going to contain some DIY craft information. So far I only have the walkthrough for making pony falls and dreads on the website. Have a look or book mark it if you're interested.

So, I knitted 2 blankets this month, there at the bottom of this page. Just scroll down to see them, as well as the tee-shirt I'm in the process of knitting.

I came across this after watching an interview with Paul Newman about his network of camps for chronically ill children. This is a camp based in California and I thought this may be of interest to some crafters here who are looking for something worthwhile to do with their crafting

You can also see their website at http://www.thepaintedturtle.org/ and click on the crew for more information.
Please feel free to pass along to anyone you see fit.
