i've been craving to do something crafty lately, especially since i got my (still new) sewing machine on my birthday last month. trouble is, it's been so hot and humid here in connecticut, and i've been so allergic to things right now that i've felt completely lousy.

however i finally did something about it last night by scrounging for a needle in this house and thrift-store thread and some felt and bargain knockoff velcro. mix them together and you create....

the mishacuff!*
*so named for my wee bairn misha, who looks like this.

i had to scan it because my sister packed away our digital camera, but you get the general idea. the sewing is less than stellar, because i admit i am not a great hand-seamstress. but i think it lends to the cute handmade feel. i was unsure what to put in the word bubble but because my sister and i have decided this dog requires a revolution (she's that evil cute), i figured it fit.

what do you think? i think i might make some more random cuffs sometime, perhaps with lacing or snaps.

Is it possible to rent a serger for an afternoon/day?  I need to make some pillow cases and a duvet cover and a serger would make things easier.

"Why isn't she an average LTLFTP?" you might ask-well, because I've commented so many times, but have just got some courage to post my very own work! Now this is the part where I say I'm not as near good as you guys are, but I'm posting anyway ;)

Oh, I almost forgot to officially introduce myself-My name is Maya, I'm 16 aaaand...well, nice to meet you :)

Here I blame my cell phone camera for making blurry pictures )

Apron?

Last fall I made an apron for my Pottery class so it would fit me better =P

It goes almost all the way around me when tied, and is a cream canvas material.

Any ideas as to what I should do to liven it up? I was planning on either embriodering or painting on it, but I'm not sure which would hold up better, as I plan on using it all semester this go around.

I wanted some sort of a vine (but I'm up for anything basically), but I'm not so great drawing those, any links to patterns for sale/free?

yes, i know the picture is awful, but you just can't get good pictures of stuff like this.
it's completly made from wire (a fat base with two layers of thin wire wrpped around it). aside from the jesus and the pinback which i had to paint with nailpolish so it didn't interfere with the web design. it's about 2 inches tall.

Hi everyone! This is kind of a strange question, so if it doesn't belong here/ would be better suited for another community, please let me know! Anyway, let me say that this is NOT a "what should I make for my brother's girlfriend's best friend's dog's fleas for Christmas" post! It's more like I've hit a creative brick wall, and need some craftgrrl input (because I love you all).

Ok, I had to trim my beloved office poinsettia plant (his name is Bitey!). I saved all the leaves and pressed them, so now I have a bunch of fragile, paper-thin green leaves that look GREAT. But anyway, I was trying to think of a way to incorporate them into Holiday cards to give to everyone at the office (about 50 people). I thought of making each leaf into like a mini christmas tree on the front of the card, and decorating it with glitter and stuff, but then I realized- duh! Not everyone celebrates Christmas!!

So, here's my question-- how in the world can I incorporate green poinsettia leaves into non-denominational Holiday cards??

hello everyone.

long time lurker...first time poster (though i have posted a comment or two).

i was hoping someone could help jar my memory. a while ago i met some weird obscure far off family memeber and i remember she did this really cool thing. i can't ask her what it is or how its done cause i have no idea where she is. i dont know if it has an official "name" or not but i wanted to look up information on it.

basically, if i remember this correctly, was she had 5 or 6 pages of the same picture (say it is a picture of a flower). then, she cut out certain parts of it (petals or whatever) and glued them onto the original picture of the flower so that it looked like the flower was 3-D. when she was done doing all that, she would put it in a shadow box type picture frame and i thought it was the coolest thing ever.

i hope i am making sense. i really dont know what it is called. i just wanted to look up some information on it.

I go to the store and I see a whole lot of those fishnet-looking ponchos (if you know what I'm talkin bout) and does anyone here know how to make any of those? by the way, sorry for the text only post...

Has anybody found a good use for those tyvek envelopes from the post office? The tyvek is really strong and thin, I'd like to find a way to recycle them.

cheers,

Anu

Sweet Mother of God I must be losing my mind!
I have to go to a friends family party in about 2 weeks. I have to dress up so I decided to make that cowl neck halter top someone posted the tutorial for not to shortly ago.

I CANT FIND IT FOR THE LIFE OF ME! I know it has been added to the memories but there is so much stuff there I can't find a thing! I could't detect it under "sewing" either, I also looked back about 7-10 pages.

Can someone please help!!

Two of my friends are leaving to study in England soon so I thought coasters would be an appropriate gifts (England... pubs... coasters.. I know... it's a stretch).

I just got some digital pictures I had printed our at Target, applied them with Modge Podge to some wooden coasters I had (you can still see the original design on one), and then covered with acrylic spray.

Can I sucessfully use a Pringles container as a candle mold? Will it leak, or ooze out of the paper?

Also, when's the best time to add the scent? Right at the end of the melting process?

Thanks! :-)

Well, my last post got such a good response I thought I'd post two more bracelets I made for the Make A Difference auction

The one on the left is made with Czech glass beads

The one on the right is made from Czech glass and freshwater b grade pearls from The Bead Shop on Magazine St. in New Orleans

Both are made from sterling silver eye pins that i pieced together and finished off with barrel clasps.

Pretty?
