Hi everyone!

I am chairing a silent auction in the coming months for a group here in NC called Ms. Films. There are a series of events being held all under the moniker "Chicks Rock". If anyone on here is interested in donating anything for the cause (or know anyone who is), please contact me, (michelle@smashingmirrors.com). We are looking for handcrafted designer items like jewelry, handbags and the like, but of course would be thrilled at anything you would offer!

Ms. Films is an organization dedicated to advancing independent women in film. For more information please visit www.msfilms.org/chicksrock.html

I've done it: I finally got a sewing machine. Whee-haw!

So, now I have an alarmingly huge box in my bedroom. The problem is-I haven't any place to put the machine. So...I'm figuring a "sewing table" should be a desk-sort of table, fairly narrow? Any recommendations for where I could get the cheapest piece of functional furniture? Someone must have had the same quest at one time or another, eh? Ikea?
I would be ever so grateful!

Two stackable cd shelves turned wall storage^

After buying a huge 200+ tower, I no longer had any need for these. I ran out of silver and gold paints halfway through, so I tossed together an "intentionally sloppy" look.

The silver tin is an old project of mine, featuring magazine cutouts of a doll face and "100% Hardcore" label.

Above, some random toys (and candle) that I couldn't find space for elsewhere.

so i looked through the memories, but couldn't find anything.

i'm looking to see how you would make floor cushions. i'm sure i could get the gist of it by just feeling around with a machine, but i'd like to get some ideas for how i could make them interesting, such as a box or welt cusions, putting buttons on every so often, etc.

any ideas are appreciated. thanks!

Ok, ignore the subject line. I have been meandering around my kitchen and playing with ingredients, and i have discovered the most awesome face scrub/mask in the whole world. It looks hidious but smells oh so good :D

Crazy Kitchen Facemask and scrub:

2 bags of peppermint tea (the stuff in the baggie, not the baggie themselves lol)
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 package of oatmeal
1 piece of celery about 2 inches long

throw all these in a blender, and grind/grate them for a minute till all looks powdery. then:

take 1/4 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of virgin olive oil, 1 tablespoon of almond extract, and one tablespoon of maple syrup. sounds crazy, i know, BUT IT IS OH SO GOOD.

throw those in with the powdery concoction and blend until it looks sort of like a milkshake texture, and pour into a cup that you can throw away.

wash your face with cold water, and then scrub your face with the scrubby stuffs. leave it on for 20 seconds, then take another layer of the concoction and put it on your face like you would a mask. IT tingles, smells awesome, tightens and cleans the skin, (especially for those acne prone like me) and does wonders for everything you need done on your face all in one.

Leave this on for 20 minutes, relax and watch tv or read a book, just RELAX. It does look like a witch's face out of a horror film from the 60's, but I promise you, it is just that awesome.

Let it dry and then rinse your face with warm to hot water, or cold if you prefer, and pat dry.

Hey!
I went to a family reunion and we have an auction every year. Thia year there was a box filled with wicker and so on. I got..maybe 10 rolls of the stuff and the bottoms to go along with it. I checked...there is 11 rolls. Some are smaller than the others. I also got a bunch of circles with holes punched in them, which I imagine is the bottom of the bowls or whatever.
I have no idea what I am doing. My aunt bought me the box for $5 and I thought I would give it a whirl.
I checked the memories and didn't find anything on this.
Does anyone know any sites or books I can check out? I have no clue, at all, how to do this, but it seemed interesting.
Any help..any at all would be nice.
Someone told me I have to soak the stuff first, but I have no idea what in and I would hate to ruin the stuff.
Thanks!!!!

Having been inspired by posts on this forum I decided a while back to try glass etching with Armor-Etch. It worked great and I made several different things. Unfortunately I gave them away for Mother's Day without taking pictures. Now I have a wedding present to make and I want to move on to "the next level" in etching. I have several pictures of some orchids that are like the ones used in the wedding. I want to use one of the pictures to etch the bottom of a glass plate. Now here's the part where I start grovelling.

Would anyone be willing to spend a few minutes to help me turn a picture into a stencil?

I plan to stick contact paper to the bottom of the plate and cut out the shapes to be etched. I know, I know, there have been a gazillion tutorials on the subject of stencil-making. But I have no graphics software available other than Paint and every time I try it looks crappy. Please please please? Maybe I can send some craft supplies your way or something? I'll be sure to take pictures this time and post them and give you credit too!

EDIT: I also thought about putting tall orchid stems around a tall cylindrical vase.

My mom wants to make a shoji screen type thing for our bathroom. In case you don't know what those are, there is a picture on this site:

http://www.orientalfurniture.com/page/OF/PROD/SS/SSCWP

They're those Japanese bamboo/wood-and-rice paper things that look really pretty, especially when backlit. So here's the deal: we have a row of bare bulbs above the bathroom mirror, and she wants to make a narrow shoji screen to cover them up. Here's my crappy MSPaint drawing of what it should look like:

So my first question is: does anyone know where we could buy rice paper or the fake unflammable rice paper substitute? (Either would be OK, I think, as the top part of the "screen" is going to be open, thus letting the majority of the heat escape)

My second question is: Does anyone who does woodworking or know somebody who does woodworking think they'd be able to make this piece for us, because I don't think my mom has done anything with a hammer and nails since high school, and I'm pretty hopeless with this kind of stuff as well?

The other, non-shoji related part of this post is I was in a bead store today even though I haven't done beadwork since, like, 7th grade, and I saw the awesomest project idea ever in a bead magazine. What they did was take a long length of tulle, tie a knot at one end, slip a big bead into the "pocket" formed by the knot, tie another knot, and so forth. They made an entire necklace without using string or wire or anything, just knotting the tulle between each bead. The end result was really elegant with gold beads and black tulle, but I'm imagining a really fairy-ish look with blueish green tulle and pearly beads, or a funky look with neon tulle and rainbow colored beads. If anyone makes this, I'd really like to see how it turns out (and you can bet I'll be making one or two and posting the results soon!)

Well.. I figured it was time for my debut post. I'm Annie and I knit. (Among other things.) My summer job is being a shopkeep for a knitting specialty shop... so I'm surrounded my tons of tempting yarn everyday. So I've been knitting like crazy.

First, a warning... these pictures aren't great. They'd be good if I had access to my Photoshop... but I don't. So we'll make do.

This is my poncho. It's actually three colors, beige, dark green, and dark brown. And I do have arms. They're just behind my back. It's 100% wool. Very expensive. >.> I used this pattern and modified it for three colors instead of two.

Here's the first hat I ever made and the obnoxiously long scarf that goes with it. Noticed my aversion to looking directly at a camera? I am weird. Here's a close up of the scarf so you can see the sparkly that's in it. Pretty.

And last, the little bag I made. The color in this picture is waaaaay off. That background is DARK red and the bag itself is black, not grey. But at least you can see the criss-cross pattern I knitted into it. It's made from cotton and I like it. :O

Anyway. That's that. I've got a few more things I've made... but nothing interesting enough to photograph.

So.. that's me.

In respect to the print gocco:

1. can the flashbulbs be used more than once?
2. Once I have made a master screen and have printed it a few times, can I wash the excess ink off of the screen and use it to print with again later? or is it just a one time use screen?
