Hi!
I am planning on making some washclothes for my sister since she is moving out in a few month, but all the patterns I found ask for 100% cotton thread...  Is it a big deal of I use 100% acrylic instead?  I cannot find any 100% cotton thread and I already own a lot of acrylic, taht is why.

Thanks in advance

Well...I decided I needed perler beads. My mom made fun of me and told me they were for kids. :[!
So, I decided to make rad things and prove her wrong. haha.

Hello everyone. I just spent a frustrating hour searching online for papercraft materials. Specifically, I need cardstock, mulberry paper, and spray adhesive. My idea is to do some embroidery on the mulberry paper and then fix it to the cardstock for a handmade greeting card. So, any papercrafters out there have a favorite webstore to recommend? Thanks!

This altered tin is part of a wedding gift that I made for my good friends. Their wedding was a pagan celebration so I used witchcraft as the theme for the gift. I bought a nifty wee wooden chest and decorated it with beads. I filled the chest with lots of little handcrafted goodies eg; an altered tin that had incense cones in it and some witchcraft quotes. I made up a couple of massage oil blends using essential oils and jazzed up the bottles a bit with wire and marbles. Also include in the gift were the following; two personalised bookmarks, a perfumed body cream, a heart shaped marble window hanger, a candle, some vouchers for 'breakfast in bed', 'a night off from doing the dishes' etc.., and a handcrafted wire ring for the bride and a beaded bracelet for the groom.

Is fimo suppose to slightly bend after being baked for 30 minutes? I baked a few pieces today that aren't very thick (not even an inch thick) and noticed that if I try to I can bend them a bit. If bended hard enough it breaks. Is that normal?

I dropped one piece on the floor (on purpose) that was at least an inch thick and it didn't break, but I could bend that slightly too.

Hey guys!

I've recently started getting into ring making (the basic bead and wire) and saw some gorgeous ones on etsy that I liked. I was wondering if you could tell me what type of tools they use to make them. Below is an example from a seller named Madlenka. Thanks in advanced.

Last week I painted my ceramic beast box, and I think I did a pretty good job! :) And this week I got 5 days off work(I needed it!) so yesterday I pretty much had all day to myself, so I decided to try stenciling again so I stenciled on some fabric and made a shirt!

I made this for my fiancee in the past couple months. I just sent it off the other day and he just recieved it. Thought I would share the pictures of my hardwork/emotions. I had talked about it at Valentine's Day and I wanted to get it done for then but that just wasn't meant to be, so the pics are below the cut. :)

Hope this inspires you.. I know there were some people who commented on stealing my idea. :-p

I've missed Craftgrrl - been so busy with work and getting ready for all these shows that I haven't had a lot of time to read or post. :(

But, I have something to show:)!!!

All right, this may be a dumb question, but it's one of those things that's hard to google. Simply put, I hate sewing machines. I have one, but I find it confusing, and I really don't like mechanical things or power tools. I much prefer to sew by hand, and this is how I was taught to sew by my grandmother.

So the question: why do most people nowadays use a sewing machine?

is it a) just because it's so much faster, b) because it can look a bit "neater", or c) does a sewing machine actually create garments/objects that are more durable than those sewn by hand? It's the last one that I'm worried about. Of course, any seam can come apart, but is there any way to make a hand-sewn seam as strong as a machine-sewn one?

Thanks in advance! I was going to post pics, but I couldn't think of any that would be remotely relevant, so I figured better to have no pics than to have pics of jewelry in a question post about sewing;).

Jewelry-making fest!

I had a lot of fun with these, except for the times when I didn't.

These are made with Memory Glass and magazine clippings (copyright infringement warning), and I think the photos turned out better than the necklaces themselves. One of them lacks a cord, but has a snazzy red bead.

This is made with random beads and a pretty polished shell. Rather straightforward, but I dig it.
