i have some older craft supplies i dont use (mainly beads and small wooden shapes) that i would like to donate. is there a crafty organization that works with children, the elder, or the underprivileged that i could send my things to? i thought of donating them to an elementary school and asked my mom who's a teacher but apparently they dont do too many crafts at schools nowadays. i have tried googling but i havent come up with anything. im in central florida if that matters. thanks!

Dear Craftgrrl...

F*CK YOU!

Love,
StephSteph

P.S. Thanks for all of the suggestions from the last entry I made! You guys kick ass!

---------------------------------------

Background: I see "just because" or "Thinking of you" cards all
the time, but they're so lame and just NOT the kind of thing I'd
send to my friends. That said, I figured there were other people
thinking the same thing, so I made some cards for those of us looking
for something different! Here's the last two batches:

And now on to the new ones!

So over at egl sales community there have been many people selling little cupcake jewelry and pastel sweets and such...but nothing gothic persay. But in truth, what everyone was making could be turned gothic by just changing the colour scheme around and adding more gothic elements to the jewelry. Low and behold, dark sweets!

Comments and criticisms appreciated ^_^ any suggestions also for what I should make next would be nice as well.

I've been carving some stamps lately, just here and there as it's a nice craft to do while watching TV. Although there are some setbacks to watching TV while doing crafts! I've found it has to be a show that you're not all that interested in, otherwise I end up watching more than I end up crafting!

Here are some of the things I've produced:

( I'm actually having a hand-carved stamp giveaway over on my blog as a thank you to everyone who's shown me support as I tackle this new 'craft blog thang', so since you grrls have all been so helpful I'd love to invite you over to enter as well! I hope this is okay - it isn't a selling plug, it's a giveaway plug! So I hope it's okay with the mods )

Legal?

Hi. I checked the memories and couldn't find anything on this topic. Hopefully I'm not reposting questions.

Does anyone here have experience with making vinyl wall decals? I would like to try but I'm afraid that my design might be too large to work. How large can you go before you loose sticking power? Is there a certain type or brand of vinyl that has more cling to it?

Thanks.

I want to thank the person who responded to a post about people's favorite projects with a link to their personal link library that led me to this pattern. Sorry that's so incredibly vague, but, well... I have a mind like a steel sieve. Never remember a detail I can forget. :/

Anyway, the instructions are: here and in that forum you can see pictures of ones far more creative (and better sewn!) than mine. The idea is brilliant, though, and the bags work really well. They are a bit time-consuming to make, and attention to detail (which I obviously do not have!) is important to make the job go smoothly. Still, I'm very happy not to have to haul plastic bags in for recycling any more!

Rice Bags

So simple, I am almost ashamed to post it. But, if any of you, like me, have back aches or cramps, then these little dohickeys can really help.

I made some rice bags. Basically they're sewn up tubes filled with rice. You microwave them for 30 to 45 seconds and they retain heat really well. They're heating pads that are safe to fall asleep with (unlike the plug in electric type) and you're not tied to a cord or an outlet. I added some essential oil scent to the rice so they smell good when microwaved. I made little slipcovers for them out of flannel. The little pillow case style slipcovers make the bags even more comfy and the cover can be slipped off and stuck in the wash. (You can not wash the rice bag without ending up with a gross mess of partially cooked rice.) I sewed some velcro into the tops of the bags as a closure. Mine are long narrow tubes to go on my lower back and around my neck. They can be made in any shape though.

It's not much, but it was a fun, easy, and really useful project. And they make great gifts.

Fun Alternative use for rice bag heating pads: If you life in a cold climate (like say Alaska where I live), and you have a pet who is sensitive or unused to the cold weather (like an indoor cat or a hedgehog), toss a warmed up rice bag in their carrier if you have to take them on a winter-time trip to the vet. Or just give it to them to cuddle on a particularly chilly day so they can stay by their favorite drafty window spot. (Yes my cat is spoiled.)
