If I just leave the foot up on my machine and stick the unquilted quilt I just made under it and start sewing around on it, would that quilt it? Do I have to buy an extra foot for free motion or whatever it's called quilting?

So I'm starting to get together projects for the winter months, & one of those projects is finally learning to use my sewing machine
I've got loads of fabric, & I want to make some skirts.

I'm not sure what the name is of the style I want to make, but it's floor length & billow-y. Kinda hippy-ish or like something a belly dancer would wear. I'm open to making more than one skirt, so I'd love to see any tutorials for skirts like this style too :)

Does anyone know where I could find tutorials to help me out with this? Also, I'm seriously a n00b when it comes to sewing, so if you think this would be too hard as a first project, please let me know!

So ..
