Just a picture frame I made.

Halp, please! I need to make 4 capes for my boyfriend, myself, and our two friends by the 30th.

I'm not sure what kind of needle and thread I need to use, and I'd like these capes to come out nice! I don't have the fabric yet, though.

ETA: Do you think that lamé is too difficult to sew as a beginner? It seems to be an odd fabric, after all...

ETA again: Okay, so I was GOING to order from Fabric.com, but I've been informed that Fabric.com's express shipping isn't very express at all...so, would anyone happen to know some good fabric stores in Philadelphia where I can find several different colors of lamé?

Thanks so much! Sorry for text-only.

The mermaid! Or, the mermaid? )

So, here is the mermaid I made for my daughter (she's almost three and has been on a Little Mermaid kick). While it's adorable and she loves it, it doesn't really scream MERMAID!! when you look at it. I think it's partially because I chose blue for the skirt/tail because the fabric store didn't have any good greens. Anyway! I'm wondering if you guys can think of anything I can do to make it seem more mermaid and less princess-y. :) Thanks!

I knit! I've tried a handful of times in the past but always got frustrated and confused. But I did it tonight! I knit and purled and did a tiny little swatch. It all went to hell when I tried to make ribbing, and even worse when I tried casting off, but I frogged that part and managed to pick up the stitches and relearned how to cast off thanks to a YouTube video. (Not that anyone wants to see a really poor photo of my n00b attempt, but here it is.)

Anyway, I want to make a baby sweater so, so bad. A larger size would be a good idea as it will surely take me forever and my daughter's already in 9 month size. I'm about to go browse Ravelry (I've only ever used it for crochet--searching knitting patterns is exciting!). But if anyone has resources for the world's easiest pattern(s), I'd love to see it!
