Hey everyone, check out this necklace I made:

flower pendant necklace 2

More on my blog

I wish I could say I made the pendant, but all I did was make the hemp cord and string the pendant on it as I went. I got the pendant from an artisan at an outdoor fair in Argentina a few years back when I studied abroad there. I made a braided hemp cord for it at first, but one of my knots came loose, and I've had the pendant just sitting around since then. I finally got some motivation to fix/remake it!

The question I have is about solutions for allergies to some metals. I've got "sensitive skin" that reacts to metal that has any nickel content, and possibly other metals but I know that's usually the culprit. This necklace gave me a rash after only two days of wearing it, and now it'll probably be a month before I can wear it again :( I'm curious if anyone has any good strategies for coating the metal surface so it won't affect my skin? I've always used clear nail polish in the past on things like belt buckles, but it always wears off pretty soon and as it does, it looks so ugly coming off. I'm not too familiar with types of sealers they might have at craft stores and whatnot, anyone have any suggestions for something that could coat metal permanently?

A few of us were lamenting the existence of an active LJ handspinning and dyeing community, so we decided to begin one:

[livejournal.com profile] spinning_squee

...and we'd love to meet other active handspinners (of any level) and dyers! It's a show off community mixed with tips, advice, friendship and meme fun. We also encourage spotlight on shops (Sat/Sun shop spotlight) related to the fiber community so we can actively support friends and family. (Spam free mind you. Advertise, then we'll add you shop to a main listing for easy searching later. We'll work out the kinks on this as we see how it turns out.)

Since we're new it's a work in progress. This means it's a great time to join, get in your 2 cents and meet people off the bat. If you just want to lurk and use the resources page- that is cool too. We're very enthusiastic about handspinning, so anything to further the love works just fine.

Thank-you!

So maybe this isn't completely relevant here... but does anyone here know anything about milk yarn? I found some here and I was like what??? So if anyone had any information, it would be appreciated.  :) If not I may just have to splurge!

Yes, I have googled it a little, but I was hoping for first hand knowledge from actual crafty people :P

My mother and I, last time I was visiting my parents, collaborated on an apron from this company:

And I know I just updated on the Tea Mural a week or so ago, but it's finished now! What will I do?
