My youngest went as superman, my oldest wanted to go as a pirate. He even made me a picture diagram of what he wanted:

six year old rendition of "piyirit"

The shirt and pants were his that he was outgrowing, so he said it was ok to cut them. The vest is an old black fleece vest of mine. The ring pom fringe I had on hang to sew on the bottom, and I made the eyepatch and the crossbones from fleece and stitched them on. The hook is actually a plastic hanger poked through a plastic red cup. I just covered it all in duct tape, then tin foil for the hook and painted the duct tape black for the rest of it. Same with the sword - it's two pieces of cardboard duct taped together, tin foil for the blade and painted black for the handle. The only things we bought were the bandanas. He loved it!

Bearded dragon wings

I work at a pet store, and when the manager announced that we'd be having a pet hallowe'en party complete with a professional photographer, I suddenly wanted to dress up a pet. But since I don't have any fuzzy pets, I decided to make the bearded dragon into a real dragon!

Unfortunately this is a crappy cell phone photo. The "bones" of the wings are craft foam, with felt "webbing" glued to the underside. I painted it all up (I swear there are more yellows and browns than show up in this photo) and then made a quick harness shape out of some spare fabric, which I also painted (again, it's not white like the photo shows!)

I really didn't put to much effort into the rest of the assembly; some fray check, some velcro, and some staples and it was ready to wear. I think he looks pretty cute :) He just sat there, enjoying the attention for half an hour at the store before I took him home. What should he be next year?

Dear fellow crafters,

My name is Dani and I have been lurking here for a bit and really love all the things everyone is making. No one has ever properly taught me how to do things like sewing, knitting, etc. but I like working with my hands and learning new things so I usually teach myself by try and error. Generally I'd say that I immerse myself in things very passionately right away and after a while I lose interest and look for other things to try, but for a while now sewing has been my go-to activity. I don't own a sewing machine or anything and I wouldn't know how to use it, but that's okay I guess.

Anyway, this is a picture of some of the things I have made recently. Among them are pillows, bunny and bear plushies, bearded cat pillows and the Mombles - my little pillow monsters.

For some reason I really love giving them all beards, maybe because my Dad has a beard and he's always been a great influence. Or maybe because I'd secretly like to have a beard. Who knows. Eiher way - hello everyone! :)
