Plush Octo

I've been wanting to make an octopus stuffed animal pattern for awhile, and I finally got around to it. I was initially making them out of just fleece but events sort of fell into place that I ended up making one out of a sweater for a friend of mine, and I've been making tons of them out of recycled sweaters since. They are really squishy and cute, like sock monkeys. 9 u 9

Update on cleaning beads

Cleaning these beads has been an experience. Dawn followed by a long soak in baking soda worked on a couple of hand-fulls. Adding a wash in dilute white vinegar cleaned up about another third. The rest of the beads still had a distressing musty basement smell until I soaked them in one of the denture cleaners!
Now, on to sorting them all out!

My two new kitties are in need of a scratching post before they decide to take a liking to any of the furniture. I want to make something like this. However, I don't know what kind of glue to use between the layers of cardboard. It needs to be something that isn't harmful to animals in the event they want to chew on it like the cat in the picture. I'm also wanting to cover the base with hemp rope, so the glue needs to be super heavy duty to keep the rope in place. Any suggestions?
