Washing before, and Mixing stuff

craftgrrlIs it ok to paint in a shirt without washing it? I can't remember.
and I've told customers that they can mix varnish and paint together to protect the painting a little more. Like if they stencil on a wall. I'm pretty sure this would work,but I'm not 100% positive.
