harry potter gryffindor scarves

craftgrrlok I remember someone posting hints on making Harry Potter (gryffindor) scarves. I want to make 1 for my bf's mom who has been dieing for one ( and one for myself) but, I couldn't find it in the memories but I have a few questions :
1) for the colors... I already have red heart - "gold" and mainstays "soft burgundy" are these close to the right colors?
2) what would you suggest - crocheting or knitting?
3) I've never crocheted or knitted so this would be my first time... any suggestions, tips, or tutorials you could give me?
