wallet 'n' suspenders

craftgrrlallright, i am going to make a wallet for my manager at work, because she bought me a cup of my favorite coffee, and refused to let me pay her back. SO i am paying her back in an obnoxious handmade wallet.
i want to make a bi-fold for her, the outer will be fuzzy blue [from a joanne's halloween sale], and it'll be lined with purple on pink polkadot cotton [from a thrift store, something Disney made].
i'm wondering can i put something like cardboard or layers of thick paper between the inner and outer to reinforce the shape? i need an alternative for interfacing because 1. i don't have any, 2. the nearest craft store is about 10 miles away, 3. no cash, 4. no gas...that, and its after 1am. help!
-on a non-wallet note- i have a pair of rainbow suspenders that are dying to be crafted into something. any ideas other than wristbands? they are three fingers wide.
