masonite?

Hello. I'm new to lj, but I've been reading craftgrrl for a month or so now. you are all so awesome, I'm feeling totally creative again! Thank you.

I also have a question I was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction...

My boyfriend just got a laptop, and needs a slightly harder surface than his lap to put it on. I was thinking about getting a thin peice of masonite or something, like clipboards without the clips, about 12"x15", to paint/decorate and give to him as a gift. Problem is, I don't know where to get a piece that thin in those dimensions. I've only ever bought masonite in 8'x4' peices, which might be overkill, a bit. any thoughts?
