(I hope this is craft enough for this community. If not, would you be so kind as to direct me to the correct one?)

I baught these jeans a couple of weeks ago. As you can tell, they're somewhat straightlegged, or a little more than I'd like. I prefer flare jeans. What I was thinking was...if I slit open the sides, about 4 inches up (or however much up I need, I don't know), and sew into the gap a piece of fabric of some kind that I haven't decided yet, would it make it flare more? Like these?.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks :D
