craftgrrl | Mini Sewing Machine Question

I have a tiny tiny apartment with the old smaller closets, and want to learn to use a sewing machine and make more things.
Does anyone have one of the mini sewing machines(NOT the handy/easy stitch piece of junk), and know if it is strong enough to sew through vinyl? I've had the strong desire lately to make my own album cover bags and am planning on buying a grommeter to start the making process, but just wanted to know if I could sew the bags too. Any other ideas for doing the sides of the bag? I could always seal the pictures with contact paper if it came down to that.

Other than that, this week I'm going to be making bath bombs, candy cane bath salts, truffles, the super cute mice chocolates and whatever else I come up with.
