My main gift craft!
Dec. 23rd, 2003 01:50 amHere is my main gift craft this year.
For all of you that are obsessed with IKEA, you've probably seen the MALMA mirrors. They're $1.99, and available in red, green, and natural.

They can be pretty nifty looking on their own (Vern even used them in red on Trading Spaces) but I picked up as many as I could carry on my last visit and I've personalized them for a number of people on my list. Here are 4 samples:

and some details:

This is for my best guy friend, Curtis. He doesn't know it yet, so if you know you know him please don't tell! This is a crab (he's a Cancer) that I burned into the wood of the mirror frame with a wood burning tool. I then stained him red for the "pop" I was looking for. It looks great, (no?) but man do I have a sore throat today! Make sure if you do this craft you pay attention to the ventilation, whether it's cold outside or not!

This is for one of my best girl friends, Denise. Ditto on not telling her if you know her! These are dogwood blossoms. I made them and the pansies in the next detail photo out of shrink plastic and attached them to the frames of the mirrors with E6000 glue.

This was my take on the "Dark Side of the Moon" album cover for my friend Donny. He has his. He seemed to be very pleased :) I made the triangle prism out of shrink plastic, then coated it with glow in the dark glitter and sealed that (to avoid getting glitter all over!) and then attached with the E6000.
I had a lot of fun with these, and they would be easy to put together for a couple of friends if you have a convenient IKEA!
Next I plan on making some for myself!
