every now and then I will resuce a doll form a thrift store or get a neat one in a store and give her a make over. This lady was a former My Scene Barbie with the big heads. This one had all the paint removed with nail polish remover and I painted new eyes, eyebrows, and lips with acrylic paints. Then I seal them with either gloss (over the eyes & lips) sealer or matte (over the eyebrows, blush, and eyeshadow) sealer. This keeps the paint form rubbing off.
Her wings are made from wired ribbon that I heat singed so they won't fray. It's a wonderful process, but needs to be done in a well ventaliated area, as it is rather stinky. Just take a solidering iron, and let it heat all the way up. Take an old picture frame with the glass still in tack and place the ribbon on the glass. Take the solidering iron and draw the pattern on the wing....melting the ribbon as you go. It works best if you try to keep one wired edge as the main vein of the wing. (though you may need to replace the wire with some thicker wire after you are finished)
This also works for making the holes and other designs in the wings.

Just remember to ventillate, ventillate, ventillate!!!! Some fabrics give off bad fumes when you singe them.
More pictures are hiding here .
