Cookie tins

craftgrrlI've recently become the proud owner of three metal tins which were originally used to hold butter cookies.
The glee is because the company designed the outside with Muppets!. (I can't find a pic online, but they are just like these. I found mine at the Christmas Tree Shop, which is a hodgepodgy of all sorts of knicknacks.)
My question: Can anyone recommend any sort of spray or treatment I can use on the tins in order to keep the outside design from easily scratching off?
