::First post- making a stuffed animal::
Dec. 30th, 2003 05:43 pmHello! I've been apart of this community for a few months but this is my first post.
I am interested in sewing but I haven't done too much other than altering shirts or simple things like hems.
I wanted to give my boyfriend a stuffed turtle for xmas but I went to seven stores and couldn't find one!!! So I decided to sew one, this is my first big project and my first stuffed animal I've ever made!
My mom doesn't really know much either but she told me I need to make a pattern ( which I just drew myself ), after that I did everything myself. I used green fleece, folded it in half and drew a turtle outline. I cut that out and sewed the 2 pieces together then turned it inside out and this was the result:

Then I left a small opening and stuffed him!:

Next I made a pattern for his shell. I bought this material because it looked like a shell to me. I stuffed the shell minimally. Then I hand sewed it onto the body, I probably could have used a machine if I stuffed him AFTER I put the shell on...oh well. I sewed on black buttons as eyes:

Viola! The finished product! I made him toes by using thread and pulling it tightly:

Here's a closeup of his face with button eyes, threaded smile and nose:

The only thing I'm unhappy with is how long the arms and legs and neck are, I would have liked to make them more stumpy.
