Has anyone here tried one of those serger attachments for sewing machines, like this one:

It's supposed to screw on to any mechanical sewing machine, and will turn it into a serger. Is this too good to be true?

Also, I'm looking to buy an upgraded sewing machine. I sew too much for the basic machine I have now. (an older Singer, good for light sewing, but not so good for the heavy fabrics and furs I sew)
One model I'm looking at is the White 2999 machine, has anyone here used it? Another model is the Elna 3007, but at around 500$, it's a little out of my range, unless it's really worth the difference. The memories seemed to talk only about basic machines, I hope I didn't miss this topic, if I did, sorry, point me at it please.

And if I wanted to sell my beginner machine, is there a community you guys know of to post it on?
