Book Purse!

My first ever. The inside lining is too long. I should have measured better. And I didn't double the sides.

Now I want to go to the hardware store and get something to attach straps to the book itself. I fear that if I attach them to the sides, that will be too much pull, although the purse can't hold much. I was going to drill and use screws, but I didn't have any screws short enough. I want to try a grommetty ind of thing. Any suggestions?
