Removing Paint
Jan. 30th, 2004 07:29 pmI have a pair of black nylon Vans with a white vinyl stripe across the sides. Last Spring I painted the white part with Liquitex acrylics (the kind in the tube) and sealed with Modge Podge. By the end of the summer, a lot of the paint chipped off. So now I just want to remove everything and get back to the original white stripe.
I used acetone to remove a great deal of the paint. The stitching is still rainbow colored from the paint, but that's fine with me. My problem is the orange, green, purple, and one of the blue colors won't come totally out. They are very very faded (like a stain). The other colors of paint came out okay.
Next I tossed them in the washer with a great deal of OxyClean and some Tide. This cleaned the thread up a lot more, but the outside stripe on each shoe is still stained.
I thought about just repainting the stripe white, but I really don't want to do that (afraid it will chip again). Any suggesstions on removing my paint stains?
