X-posted for maximum inspiration...
Feb. 1st, 2004 10:40 amSo...yesterday while putting off all my homework and studying I have for next week...I was wandering through this glorious lj and found a little tutorial on this huge new thing known as finger-knitting that everyone seems to be talking about. Then is craftgrrl someone posted this on finger crocheting a chain. Okay...so I finger knit an i-cord and made a crazy little scarf and it was fun. Then I was just playing around (I have so much yarn and I need to get rid of it) and decided to take the whole "finger-crochet" thing one step further and make a hat. I was just doing single crochet, using my right index finger as my hook.
I can not describe to how amazing this felt for me...
Crocheting...as soon as I taught myself how...felt soooo good! I picked it up really quickly and was making hats by like day three. But after christmas I sort of lost my drive to crochet...maybe it was the massive crocheting in such a short period of time...maybe it was my lack of purpose to crochet. I don't know. I just hadn't done it in forever.
A while back someone posted in crochet about how it was like meditation...a spiritual thing for them. And I would have commented back...but everything that I felt had been said many times before. I get lost in the spirals and I could sit there and just crochet for hours at a time.
Anyhow. Yesterday afternoon when I started making my hat...I don't know. I sat there and never wanted to get up again. It was the most intense thing I have ever done. Making this gorgeous hat...and I must say it probably turned out better than anything else I have ever made...out of just some yarn and these two hands that have been given to me. Nothing else. I don't know what it was. It was insane and undescribable.
If any of you ladies and gents out there have some spare yarn just sitting around...or want to try something new...crochet without a hook. It was so amazing...my lord.
I made two hats yesterday and have already decided to make another one and a scarf today (I am going to try the scarf...we will see how well I do...hehe) since people last night were amazed with my hat. I am just....uh...I don't know what to say really. I'm sorry for the blabbling ramble...I just needed to let you kids know.
I wish I had pictures to show you...
