[identity profile] cordelia-sue.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl
I recently started knitting, and I'm loving it. Aside from a couple of dishcloths and a couple of fun fur scarves, this scarf I'm posting about is my first project. It's very easy, as it's all done in garter stitch, but it has a kind of unusual shape to it, which makes it very versatile. I'm in love with it. I made one for me and one for a friend of mine.

This is the one for my friend:

One of the things I love about it is that you can wear it many different ways

And these are photos of the one I made for me:

This is what it looks like laid out, so you can see the shape:

Instructions

The instructions are for size ten needles. Instead of knitting this from side to side, you knit it width-wise, so you will need to use (or switch to) circulars. I used 32", but the instructions were written with 24", so that would be long enough.

Do not use the thumb method for casting on. Use the cable method.
Cast on 3 sts. Knit 3 sts.

Turn. Cast on 3 more stitches. Knit all stitches.

Repeat until there are 117 stitches on the needle (39 rows).

Turn, cast on 49 stitches, knit all stitches.

Turn, cast on 49 stitches, knit all stitches.

Continue knitting until the skinny parts are 4" wide. Bind off loosely.
That's it!
