make-shift headboard

i just purchased a grass/straw mat very similar to the one below and am interested in attaching it to the space above my bed to act as a sort of headboard. i have two questions, however.

1. what would be the best way of attaching the mat to the wall?
2. there is an electrical outlet on that wall into which a few things are plugged in... would it be possible to cut a square in the mat for the outlet? is there any way i could prevent it from falling apart if i do so?
