I recently re-did a jewelry box that I found at a thrift store (I’d post it, but I haven’t got a digital camera). It’s actually the first time I’ve sanded and painted an item. I had a lot of fun and plan to do more. Here’s some info on the box as well as a question:

The box was stained a light brown and was very scratched up. The inside was 70s mustard yellow (in the bad, dirty way, not in a good funky way). I sanded the box and painted it dark purple. On the inside of the lid (where it looks like a mirror used to go), I hot-glue-gunned a bunch of small, square blue/green glass mosaic tiles (I didn’t want a mosaic look… I like the not-flushed edge of the squares all together). I used a fabric pen to paint the inside mustard felt forest green. On the top, I “painted/glued” some dried ferns onto the lid (basically, I “painted” them on with elmers glue) and then I hot glue gunned a metal square that had a butterfly on it.

The package with my glue gun said that it works on wood, metal, paint, and a whole host of other objects. However, after less than two weeks, the metal butterfly fell off. The glue will NOT chip off the back of the metal butterfly. Does anybody have any suggestions on how I can get the layer of glue off the back of the metal butterfly and then how I can re-attach the butterfly to the box without spending a lot of money? (Btw, when the metal came off the box, there was absolutely no mark on the paintjob where the butterfly had been.)
