Necklace

I have this shark tooth necklace, but I don't really like the clasp & several beads that accompany it. It's also on a tan cord, and I'd rather have black.

Therefore, I want to take it apart and just slip the tooth charm onto a black cord [I'm thinking the waxy/leathery type.. I forget what it is exactly, but I'm sure I can find it in the bead aisle of any craft store].

My question is on the clasp. What would be the most affective way to "tie" my necklace? I'd prefer to NOT buy some gaudy clasp, because I have short enough hair that it would most often be noticable, and I just don't find them attractive. BUT I also want to be able to take the necklace off. So, are there any special knots I can use, or maybe something like tying a black bead to one end and some sort of loop on the other?

Thanks!
