retro room ideas

My family and I moving soon, and I'm looking foward to having a new room to decorate. I want to stick with a bold, 50s-60s retro theme for it. We're not sure how large or small my room will be yet, but it's likely that it will have those loft-esque sloped ceilings. I need some ideas for accents or things I can do for the theme--preferably anything that's cheap!

Oh, and ideas for little things that I can put in there that are crazy (like the lawn gnome I have...) are welcome, too!
