We made "artist's books" in my art 101 class...mine came out as a sort of fancy scrap book. It was my first try at making a book. It's soooo simple and really fun, they make really good sappy memory type presents. Anyway just wanted to share this :)

The covers just the back of a drawing pad covered in a thin fabric. I used gel medium (the kind you mix in paint) as a glue. It works great! The book closes with a string of purple ribbon with a velcro tab on the front of the book.

The paper was a thick white paper that I sewed together. I tore all the sides of the pages. The book is for my mom obviously. I just printed the words onto fancy paper and glued it in the book since I'm not talented at at scripting.

I pasted different things in the pages that remind me of her...those are seeds in a pocket that I glued onto a page.

I made an accordian style book. There are SO many styles you can make but accordian is the easiest type IMO. I also sewed pages within pages so you can open the book from the front and from the back.

See!:

These are a really fun and inexpensive alternative than regular scrapbooks. They're also way more fun to make and much more personal :D
