May. 26th, 2004 06:29 pmHey! This is my first post, though I've been lurking for a bit.
This is a quilt I made for my history class last December:

We did projects about our family/ancestors and we had to make a display to go with it. One choice was to design a quilt, so I chose that. I didn't exactly read my project outline carefully, and I missed the part that said we only had to design the quilt and not create it. So I made it. It looks uneven in the picture, but that's only because I had to scan it about 8 times in different spots and piece them together (the quilt is about a yard wide)...the border is actually 100% even thanks to my perfectionism.
Anyway, each piece on there was embroidered on. Some (such as the dogs) are photographs that I photo-transfered onto white cotton and embroidered onto the quilt with clear thread. Others are clip art or graphics that I did in a similar way. Much of it is just solid fabric or prints with embroidery for details. The hardest things to embroider were the clock and the guitar, but most of it was pretty tedious. I on;y used 3 or so stitches, but I tried to be creative. For example, the lines on the ruler are the blanket stitch and the tears on the mask are the broken chain stitch to look like teardrops.

You can't see most of the detail in the embroidery, so I guess you'll have to imagine it.
I got an A, by the way. (-:
Oh, and an edit...it took me approx. 5 hours total to make from the time I actually started printing/ironing/cutting/sewing/etc., which was good, since I had forgotten about the project until the weekend before it was due. Oops.
