Hot Wild Cicada Pouch Action!
Jun. 3rd, 2004 08:03 pmWell, with Brood X out and about, and me being stuck in South Florida without being able to see them, I decided to make my own little brood of hot wild cicada, in pouch form, that is.
These little guys are super tiny - no longer than 2.5 inches, at the most and are all hand sewn and made from vintage kimono silks. They are all pouches with lining. Heaven knows what is tiny enough to fit in there though. I do have plans to make much larger ones into a more bag type size. At least something big enough to fit a purse and cell phone. In the mean while though - I might even convert these ones from pouches to hair pins and broaches.
I had a lot of fun choosing fabric for these - I discovered with some of the silk fabrics with metallic embroidery...if you turn them to their wrong side - it has this amazing metallic thread work happening. As a result, the top left, top right and bottom left - their wings are all the wrong side of the fabric and look super glittery and iridescent in person :]
I’m sorry that some of these are unfinished in the photo. I have actually finished them all - but my camera died on me before I could get an "after" picture. The top left one, with black is fully completed - with the rest just needing their drawstring hem sewn on.
Well enough blabbing and to the photo:
