Decoupaged eyeglass case, Pop-up card
Jun. 17th, 2004 09:40 amThis week I decoupaged an eyeglass case with pictures of the transit of Venus (article) and people watching it around the world. Thanks to those of you with tips on dealing with the difficult edges! :) I learned that watering down the glue too much is baaaaad news for color copies, so I had to use at least 2 layers of most of the photos. I also finished with 2 layers of polyurathane, especially on those edges.

The whole shebang. That's Venus crossing the sun on the front.

Detail of the top.

Detail of the bottom.

Opened.
Last night I also made a pop-up (kinda) comic-themed birthday card for my fiance to go with the new McSweeney's (info) I was giving him. I used cardstock, color copies of vintage comics, and foam squares.

The front. You can't see the pop-up parts much here. I added speech bubbles with Photoshop, but didn't think of adding the "birthday" in the background til it was too late, so I made due wtih some cheezy contruction paper cutout. :p

From the side, showing the pop-up parts and unfortunately, the foam!

The inside, with the mushy parts appropriately covered up. :)
