grommets

ive been having difficulty with grommets. i get the general jist of them, and i follow the directions, but they always seem to come out mangled and crummy, mind you i have been buying them from the cheapo craft store. has anyone else had the same problems? should i be buying them sonewhere else? are there any tricks or tips i should know.

i feel kind of silly...it all seems pretty basic :)
