Bag dying question

Hi there. I have a question. My local craft store only has natural colored tote bags and I want a black tote bag. So would rit fabric dye in black work on this natural bag? I have used other colors, but not black, and it would seem that a rich dark black would be hard to achieve with diy dye. And also..if it did work, would it end up rubbing off on my clothes and stuff at all? Thanks!
