a question about dying

craftgrrlDoes anyone know if the quality of material one is dying has an effect on the evenness of a dye-job? I've been using Dylon and RIT dyes for awhile now, and today when I dyed a t-shirt and some material, the material came out even but the shirt is kinda patchy... The shirt isn't a very good quality shirt, but it is 100% cotton. Anyone have any ideas? I used a cold dye....
